Wayanad--sparks the thrill !!
Wayanad - O' my God! the word sparks the thrill in my whole body. We've been mad at Wayanad and we've had fun like anything there.
It was an amazing trip. I mean words fall short when I sit to pen down the Wayanad experience here.
Wayanad is a small town in North Kerala around 6-7 hours journey from Bangalore.
It was a long weekend i.e Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. We 6 friends started from Bangalore on Thursday night in our own taxi at about 12 in the night. We were chatting, singing, playing n not sleeping for most parts of the journeys. The journey going to the destination is always fun-filled as everyone is really excited. We reached Wayanad at 6 in the morning, took hotel rooms and got ready for the outings. We had some Kerala special breakfast
and then off we were to chcek out various sight-seeing places in Wayanad. We had a local map of Kerala, using which we were guiding the taxi driver. First of all, we went to a dam. The dam was huge, however there was no water in there. It was a wonderful place to take pics. There was a nice 1 km long pathway around the dam to walk. Then there was some boating also happening. We took a walk, clicked a few pictures, fought with the boatman as he was not agreeing to our terms for boating. Fighting is always so much fun be it with anyone. Check out the pic on right..looks like all of us are on top of some ancient fort.
Next was the Pookate lake. This lake is beatiful. It offers boat rides.
After the dam and the lake, we decided to go to the waterfalls. There are two waterfalls in Wayanad - Suchipara and Kanthampara falls. We went to Suchipura falls. This is again nature's beauty. Rocky mountains with water falling with such a force is so tempting that one can't think of staying away from water. But we didn't like the place where everyone else was standing. Neither the water could be felt so properly on the body nor there was space for more people to stand. We started searching some other place. We found a nice place where water was falling from mediocre height. It was in between a few rocks - so it looked safe also. But reaching the place was certainly not easy. There was a huge rock with vertical slope that we had to climb down to reach the place. As always, we deci
ded to go for it. All of us did it but I must say Lavanya was brave enough to do it without any support. And down we were all in water.
It was nothing less than a movie scene when all people were standing on top and looking at our madness of climbing down the vertical rock. After reaching down, I had to cross a wide patch of water to reach my gang and believe me when I did it, everyone standing on top was hooting. They were all having a really nice time watching stunts. It took not even one minute for us to get drenched in water completely. It was fun. Mohit, one of our friends was taking our pic and then when he went to keep the camera he slipped on one of the rocks and hurt his foot. We all rushed to him and out was our medical ki
t. The pseudo doctor, Abhishek quickly did his dressing and tied bandage. All this added to the entertainment of the people who were still standing there on the top and watching the twists and turns in the ongoing movie. Within 5 minutes his dressing was done and he seemed to be fine. We all decided to move out now. We packed our stuff and very carefully we climbed the rock up. We did some street shopping, had some food and off we went to the hotel too tired.
We girls occupied a room and slept off early. The guys were watching TV in the next room. As time was passing, Mohit's pain was increasing. Finally at 12 0 clock, he couldn't tolerate the pain and so Abhishek
opened his dressing to check up. It was bleeding and ABhishek understood that it was more than a wound. The guys took him to the hospital where the doctor kinda operated and took out a 2 inch piece of glass from his foot. He had to suffer a lot of pain.
We got to know all this only the next day morning.
Day 2: We got up wid Mohit's glass piece news shock. He was pretty cool by then, I must say he is brave. Then we started for Calicut as there was not much left in Wayanad except a few temples (which are out of plan for us) and one more waterfall. After this waterfall incident, we didn't want to go to a waterfall again. Believe me the way to Calicut is beatiful. We stopped at many places on the way to take snaps. Some 50 kms from Wayanad there is a beatiful
waterfall named 'Thrill Fall'.
We took the car there. Mohit sat in
the car and we all went to check out the fall. It was much easy to reach the fall here then the previous day's fall. The rocks over which water was falling, were also rough, less slippery and wider. We rushed into water. Today Lavanya came with me in water. The previous day she was too scared to get into water. It was so much fun. We took many snaps and after spending about an hour there we decided to go trekking in the rain forest closeby. There was a 1 km trek uphill. Supposedly there was some view of the waterfall uphill. It had started raining. We started trekking. On one side there was a deep valley and the other side hill. So we have to be very careful. There were rocks, stones, lots of mud n tht too wet slippery mud in the place of road on the way uphill. Sometimes hodfing rocks, sometimes holding the tree branches a
nd other times holding each other we were climbing. The trek had become difficult because of the rain. On the way, there were many licchies that were stickig to our bodies, mainly legs. The sight of a licch on your body sucking your blood is horrible. We were pulling them off and some of them were too resistant to come out. Most of us got some bleeding here and there but tht is ok. We were enjoying the trek and when we finally reached the top, we were like dumbstuck. What are eyes saw was actually the most beautiful live scene of our life. There was waterfall above us and there was waterfall below us. We were kinda standing at a mid junction between the two, where we could feel the force, sound, drizzle of water but could not touch that water. Shit! we did not carry the camera at this point - so foolish of us. Amazed we were, all the
problems that we had faced while climbing up, now seemed so small. For this view, it was more than just worth it. It was like standing somewhere in between water. Trully elated we started to climb down and climbing down is always more difficult than climbing up. The rain had stopped by then but the path was really wet, muddy and slippery. WE had to be more careful than before, one small mistake can cost us a lot. Very cautiously we were coming down, holding tree branches and rocks here and there. At times we had to crawl also. But I think this 'Thrill Falls' was worth it. By the time we came down it was 4 p.m and Mohit had been alone for almost 3 hours now. He was sleeping most of the time. Then we had lunch and headed towards Calicut.
Day 2 Calicut: We got a really nice room in Calicut for pretty cheap. Then we took the car and went for a beach drive. We found out a good place for North Indian food in a newly set up mall. After food, we had tempting icecreams and then we went to the beach for a walk. In the nigth we slept off early as we were really tired.
Day 3: Morning we were off to Calicut main beach. This beach is beatiful with many resorts on its shore. It is nice and clean and has a pretty long shoreline. We quickly found a nice place in the beach and set up our tents there. Mohit's foot still had the dressing and was not supposed to wet it. So, he was sittting in the beach sand close to the place where we were pla
ying. Jumping, running, throwing mud at each other, drowning n then coming up again, what all we did there in water. Kunal went mad, no doubt we can see that from his piks. Abhishek was trying his wrestling stunts there also - jumping over Kunal like a shark from behind. The force of water is so strong that if you don't put your feet apart and stand properly it will take you behind with it but then how far, the next wave again brings you back ahead. It was fun to play with water. We burried a few of them into sand. All our clothes were like sandy sandy. We took like numerous piks. Then for some time, these guys brought Mohit on one foot into water, taking care that the dressing on the other foot doesn't get wet. He also felt the force of the wa
ves. We again took snaps. We were like not coming out of it and after some 3 hours only we agreed to come out. Then we were hungry and we wanted to eat in the beach resort but the problem was that we were all very dirty wid the sand and were wet too. Shamelessly we went to the beach resort's wash room, got ourselves a little cleaned up (though made the washroom dirty wid sand here n there) and then had lunch in the resort. This resort is really nice and the food is awesome. They serve north indian food also. I liked the north indian cuisine there. By the time we finished eating it was 5 p.m. We headed towards our hotel. We were running short of time coz Bnagalore was like 8 hours journey from there and we all had to go to office the next morning.
Telling honestly, none of us wanted to move out of the place. We wanted to rush back in the beach water and play more. But we did not have the time to do all that and with a heavy heart we said goodbye to Kerala and left for Bangalore.
Our trip was over but by far this has been one of the best trips of my life. Believe me, Wayanad is an extremely beautiful place - by far the most beautiful place in Kerala. The scenic beauty is unbeatable. It is a perefct holiday fun place. I would suggest everyone to try out Wayanad once for sure.
